How Alex and Heath first met...

Many of you know how Alex and Heath first met and to many the story is still a mystery...Alex and Heath met on a chilly Friday night in Selma, Alabama, at a Monroe Academy/Morgan Academy football game. Alex was 15 years old and Heath was 14. Alex and several other girlfriends from Monroe were thrilled to be visiting their friends from Morgan, who Alex had met the previous summer at cheerleader camp. Alex and her friends walked over to the Morgan side to say hello and catch up with the girls she had not seen since the summer, and there he was. Heath was in the bleachers amongst the chatty 9th graders. Alex and Heath met that night and never imagined they would be married almost nine years later.

A Beautiful Engagement...

December 15, 2012 was the day of their engagement. It was the day before their two year anniversary, and Heath wanted to celebrate by grilling and enjoying the sunset down at the river house. That morning Heath and Alex took their time getting up and spent most of the late morning and noon in Heath's home watching one of their favorite shows, 30 Rock. Around 3:00pm Heath rushed Alex to get ready to head down to the river. They made a quick stop at Mark's Mart to grab some chicken swirls and wine. Heath left the car running with Alex in it and ran inside (little did Alex know what was going on). While inside the store Heath saw Sam and Jacob, two friends from high school, and tried to calm his nerves about the engagement by talking to them about what was about to happen. Heath got back in the car and started driving down to the camp. He called his mom to let her know where we would be and that we would be back later. Heath and Alex unloaded the rover, turned on some Alabama Shakes, one of their favorite bands, and began to play some pool. The first game Heath almost let Alex win, but the second game was a joke. Heath just about beat Alex in one turn. He looked at his watch and said let's grab a glass of wine and head out back. As they walked outside Alex was amazed at the beautiful icicle Christmas lights that hung on the deck over the river. Two chairs were set up side-by-side where they sat down and began to enjoy the warm December weather and time together. Alex talked about the silliest things like Spanish moss and ghost in Selma, all the while Heath was anxious to pop the big question. Some cars drove up and Alex asked who they were. Heath replied that they were just hunters who lived next door. At 5:02pm he started with, "Alex I love you and you know I'll love you forever." That is when he got down on one knee and pulled out a small box. Then he said, "I want to spend the rest of my life with you." After that Heath says he asked to marry Alex, but Alex doesn't really remember because of all the emotion and sweet tears. She shook her head yes, then actually said yes, and he put the ring on her left ring finger. As they laughed and cried together Marshall, a family friend, snapped some very priceless pictures. Heath then guided Alex around the house to meet Ms. Angie, Heath's mother, and Paige, a family friend, who were the "next-door-neighbor hunters". Ms. Angie greeted them with a huge bouquet of balloons and lots of hugs and smiles. Heath had then arranged for some close friends to join in on the engagement fun. It truly was a beautiful engagement.

Alex According to Heath:

"Alex is the girl I knew I was going to marry. She wants to help everyone she comes across, and she always has a smile. She is energetic in the way she loves, persistant in the way she works, and has patience with all my imperfections. She gives me strength when I need it most. She is there for the days I doubt myself and for the days to keep me pragmatic. Alex is my biggest fan, and I am hers. Through all the ups and downs we have had I wouldn't change them for anything. She makes me live for each moment we have, somedays when I am not willing. Her personality is radiant, and she lives to make me happy. I am so fortunate to have met her on the bleachers in 9th grade."

Heath According to Alex:

" Heath Harrelson caught my eye all the way back in the 9th grade. I was immediately attracted to his radiant smile, quick wit, and charm. As shallow as it might sound, I soon found out how incredibly athletic he was and was pretty much sold at that point. As Heath and I got to know each other over the past nine years I began to realize he was much more than the star athlete, Heath America.

Heath has the biggest, most loving heart of any person I know. He makes me laugh just when I need it, and can listen to me vent on my most frustrating days. We tell each other everything (with the exception of one big surprise, our engagement).

Most importantly Heath is a man of God. He encourages me in ways I never see possible and loves the Lord more than he loves me. He is a giver, a rock, a joy, a smile, a tear, a prayer, a laugh, a protector, the one my heart desires...my true love."
